To usher in Wabshaq’s level as Advanced
in WPN, the shop hosted its first Grand Prix Trial (Beijing) last March 2,
2013.
39 players showed up for the said tournament with the obvious metagame leaning towards aggro. Emerging into the Top 8 were indeed six aggro based decks (including Allan Oca’s Bant Tempo with 20 creatures) and two control decks, one was 4-Color and the other Jund.

For those who have not been to Wabshaq, the shop is located at the first floor of the WET Centrum Building along J. Aguilar Avenue in Las Pinas City. Wabshaq is owned and run by Charles Winston Tobias, a long time MTG enthusiast, Triskelion and all-around hobbyist. The shop counter houses a good selection of unique toys along with the staples needed by every Pinoy planeswalker.
Wabshaq can comfortably seat more than
two scores of players. My estimate is that it can run an event and pack in up
to sixty players if the seating is maximized. The store was established in 2012
and mostly catered to commander format players. Wabshaq started sanctioning
tournaments and was sensitive enough to start their events after the more
popular nearby venues were done with their schedules. This ensured that
Wabshaq’s share of the player-ship of Alabang and Las Pinas would eventually
expand. Sure enough, Wabshaq garnered following, went to Core from Gateway, and
now enjoys its level as an Advanced tournament venue.
Be sure to check-out the Wabshaq kitchen
for very affordable choices of refreshment and foodstuff.
